International calls are free even when you call from a mobile phone

jaxtr.JPG
Jaxtr brings voice to social networks and blogs. Use jaxtr to link your phones with your online network to receive the calls, voice messages and texts you want while keeping your phone number private.

Jaxtr was founded in October 2005 by Phillip Mobin and Touraj Parang with the mission to bring voice to social networks and blogs. With the free jaxtr service, users can link their phones with their online network to hear from callers worldwide while keeping their existing phone numbers private.
And jaxtr is not just about hearing from people who visit a user’s profile or blog. By adding their jaxtr link to their email signature, global friends can call our users on their phone with the click of the mouse - without downloading any software, incurring international phone charges or even registering for jaxtr.

When users change their work, home or mobile number, they simply add or update their number on jaxtr; incoming calls then get routed to the phone of their choice. They can even block callers from reaching them or specify on a per-caller basis which callers can reach them live and which get routed to voice mail. Isn’t that sweet?

Jaxtr is currently in public Beta. You can register here :

Jaxtr Used As a Tool By Real Estate Professionals
Among the early adopters of jaxtr have been many real estate professionals, who are using this technology make it easier for their online visitors to get in touch with them, to ask questions, and to receive live and prompt response.

By posting his or her jaxtr link or widget, the real estate agent can significantly improve the conversion of a viewer to a buyer: with just one click, anyone can now make a free call or send a text message to the agent, from anywhere in the world. And the agent can always control which calls should ring the agent’s phone, and dynamically route calls from mobile to home or to office phone as well as jaxtr’s own web-based visual voicemail from the site.

iPhone officialy introduced by Apple

January 10th, 2007
by: Reza Amini
Category: Cell phone, Apple

app1
iPhone combines three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching — into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone also introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting you control everything with just your fingers. So it ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, completely redefining what you can do on a mobile phone.

app2

OS X
All the power and sophistication of the world’s most advanced operating system — OS X — is now available on a small, handheld device that gives you access to true desktop-class applications and software, including rich HTML email, full-featured web browsing, and applications such as widgets, Safari, calendar, text messaging, Notes, and Address Book. iPhone is fully multi-tasking, so you can read a web page while downloading your email in the background. This software completely redefines what you can do with a mobile phone.

Multi-touch
iPhone features the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse. It’s an entirely new interface based on a large multi-touch display and innovative new software that lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flip through photos and email them with a touch, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page — all by simply using iPhone’s multi-touch display.

Intelligent Keyboard
iPhone’s full QWERTY soft keyboard lets you easily send and receive SMS messages in multiple sessions. And the keyboard is predictive, so it prevents and corrects mistakes, making it easier and more efficient to use than the small plastic keyboards on many smartphones.

Wireless
iPhone uses quad-band GSM, the global standard for wireless communications. It also supports Cingular’s EDGE network, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, which links to Apple’s new, remarkably compact Bluetooth headset.

Built-in Advanced Sensors
iPhone’s accelerometer detects when you rotate the device from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page or a photo in its proper landscape aspect ratio.

The proximity sensor detects when you lift iPhone to your ear and immediately turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches until iPhone is moved away.

An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the display’s brightness to the appropriate level for the current ambient light, thereby enhancing the user experience and saving power at the same time.

CoolRunner II CPLD enabled handset demonstration platform for mobile phones

January 8th, 2007
by: Reza Amini
Category: Platform

xlogo_bgXilinx, Inc. , the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, demonstrated its latest CoolRunner(TM)-II CPLD enabled handset demonstration platform with TI OMAP compatibility. The TI OMAP processor is the industry’s leading wireless application processor with 69 percent market share in 2005, according to research firm Forward Concepts.

The new platform clearly demonstrates the advantages of programmable logic for today’s leading handset manufacturers, enabling the launch of new features into the market much faster than fixed design approaches, while simultaneously attaining lower power, size, and cost goals. The demonstration, offering new interface capabilities to GPS, Mobile TV, WiFi and CE-ATA drives, can be viewed by appointment at this week’s CES in Xilinx meeting room #35580, South Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

According to ABI Research, applications such as music downloads, web browsing, email, and GPS navigation will drive the market for smart phone handsets from 50M in 2005 to over 250M in 2009, a CAGR of 49 percent. Xilinx programmable solutions offer handset manufacturers with the needed flexibility to respond to the pressures of faster time-to-market and shorter product life cycles.

“The low power, small size, and flexibility of the CoolRunner-II CPLD family enables Xilinx to offer a compelling solution in the fast evolving smart handset market,” said David Loftus, vice president and general manager, CPLD Division at Xilinx. “Adding support for the industry-leading TI OMAP design processor to our handset demonstration platform further strengthens our value proposition.”

Nokia’s new 6131 NFC handset

January 8th, 2007
by: Reza Amini
Category: Handset, Nokia

n6131_nfc
NFC-enabled Nokia 6131 NFC handset can “touch to connect” to a wide range of services

Nokia is announcing the world’s first fully integrated, commercial NFC handset, the Nokia 6131 NFC phone, which will soon allow all of these activities and more to be performed with the simple tap of a phone.

Featuring the same slim folding lines and outstanding features, the Nokia 6131 NFC handset includes Near Field Communications (NFC) technology to enable information sharing, service initiation and payment & ticketing capability with one tap of the device. Used in much the same way as existing contactless cards and keytags to allow access and make small payments, the addition of NFC technology to a full featured mobile device adds an entirely new level of capability by leveraging the phone’s computing power, wireless Internet access and user interface.

“At CES there are dozens of potential use cases for the Nokia 6131 NFC phone. Instead of carrying a badge for entry, a tap of my phone could authorize my admittance to the exhibition, access to product information could be achieved by touching my phone on a product display, making carrying brochures around the show floor obsolete, and instead of heading to the ATM machine on a daily basis, coffee, sodas and hot dogs could be purchased using an NFC-enabled phone,” said Juha Kokkonen, director of Mobile Experiences for Nokia’s Mobile Phones business. “In a trade show environment like CES, one of my favorite applications is using NFC-enabled business cards. Instead of going home with a pocket full of cards that I have to scan or hand type into my computer, I can simply touch the card, and I have all of the contact information right in my phone.”

‘’Thin Mint'’ Candy Sized Projection Display for Mobile Devices

January 6th, 2007
by: Reza Amini
Category: Video, Gadget

projection
Next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microvision, Inc., a digital imaging company based in Redmond, Wash., plans to introduce a tiny color projection display that’s small enough to be embedded into portable devices like mobile phones.

The ultra-thin display — comparable to a thin mint, though less likely to melt in your hand — is built upon Microvision’s Integrated Photonics Module (IPM), which allows images on portable device screens to be projected on nearby surfaces for improved viewing.

Using the IPM to drive a mobile phone projector, images stay in focus at any distance, even on curved surfaces, according to the company.

Alexander Tokman, president and CEO of Microvision, says that cell phone displays typically represent a barrier to growth in the mobile market because they limit the user’s viewing experience. He expects that as mobile phone makers adopt his company’s technology, mobile network operators will see greater demand for mobile data services, such as mobile TV.

While Tokman suggests that consumers will be enthralled with the ability to hold group screenings of mobile phone video content, it’s unclear whether film industry groups will be enthusiastic about a technology that allows anyone to set up an ad hoc movie theater.

Video and audio content owners have not been shy about pursuing copyright infringement claims for unlicensed public exhibitions of their shows and songs. It seems unlikely that industry groups will experience a sudden change of heart, at least until mobile video becomes a more substantial revenue stream.
